Mary Ann Roser
Founder & Chief
Roser Prose
Roser Prose evolved from my work as the longtime medical writer at the Austin American-Statesman where I saw a common struggle: The researchers, scientific faculty and physicians I interviewed often did fascinating work but had a hard time explaining it. They relied on the lingo of their field, not the everyday language that can enthrall a crowd. But telling a compelling story is a crucial skill at a time when courting philanthropists, investors and public support is more important than ever.
Roser Prose is the culmination of my long-time dream to change that. The business is aimed at helping people who do complicated work tell great stories. It makes perfect use of my skills as a journalist, especially the ability to quickly translate complex material into common language.
I came to journalism after graduating from my hometown school, the University of Cincinnati, with a bachelor’s degree in English literature and a desire to be a famous novelist. Instead, I went to work for newspapers in Kentucky, Washington, D.C., and Texas. But I was allowed to write, and I got to tell stories.
Best of all, my editors at the Statesman let me cover health and medicine from June 2000 until my departure in May 2016. On that beat, I won first-place statewide awards for my reporting as well as national fellowships to study at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda and MIT in Cambridge.
I still love telling stories and talking to people who do interesting work. They’re not hard to find in Austin where I live with my husband and three cats who have no trouble communicating — or getting — what they want.

Dr. Blake McKinney, CirrusMD Co-founder, had a vision: to enable every person to have a better experience accessing healthcare services. Blake observed the barriers his patients were up against in seeking care, and at the same time, saw that his friends and family were able to reach out to him directly for guidance, most often via text. CirrusMD was created so everyone seeking care could immediately connect and communicate with a real doctor in this way.
Partnering with Andy Altorfer in 2012, Blake and the CirrusMD team built a platform to achieve this vision of an improved healthcare experience. Through the years, this path has been guided by Blake’s clinical insight and ongoing, practice-based understanding of the needs of both patients and doctors.
Dr. McKinney completed his internship and residency at the University of California Davis after graduating from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston. Prior to medical school he served four years as a Communications Intelligence Officer in the United States Marine Corps.
One of the main objectives of Dr. Roger Moczygemba is to fix a crippling problem in the current health care system. He recognizes that excessive health care costs, high copays, insane wait times, and rushed 10-minute doctor visits all prevent individuals, families, and employees from seeking the medical help they need when needed.
Dr. Moczygemba decided to adopt the revolutionary Direct Primary Care model, and through it, he made healthcare direct, accessible, transparent, and affordable to everyone. I
n 2017, he built Direct Med Clinic in San Antonio to transform his community. It is through his clinic that he and his team are able to provide real care to individuals, save millions on downstream costs for employers, and spread the word about the remedy to our current misaligned health care system. The Direct Primary Care model is designed to provide the ideal solution: direct contracting and membership access to fair prices without the hassle of third parties or fear of surprise billing.
Dr. Roger graduated from Texas A&M Health Science Center and then trained in Family Practice in the Navy. He has worked in Family Practice, Occupational Medicine, and Urgent Care for over 25 years and was a telemedicine pioneer in primary care nearly 20 years ago.
